Two Dauphin Kings are heading to the Western All-Star Challenge.
On Wednesday, the Manitoba Junior Hockey League announced its roster for the event, held November 3 to 5 in Martensville, Saskatchewan. Forward Ethan Stewart and goaltender Justin Perreault will represent the Blue & White at the three-day event.
The Western All-Star Challenge serves as a pre-selection camp for Team Canada West ahead of the World Junior Challenge, taking place from December 7 to 13 in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
20 of the top 19U players from the MJHL will play against 20 of the top 19U players from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
Stewart and Perreault will showcase their skills in front of scouts from several leagues, including NCAA, Major Junior, U Sports, and more, while trying to earn a roster spot on Team Canada West.
Team MJHL will practice on November 3 before playing two games on November 4 and 5.
Ethan Stewart:
After recording five points in three games to start the season, Ethan was sidelined for the better part of a month with a lower-body injury. He returned to the lineup over the weekend against Selkirk and made an immediate impact with one goal and one assist.
On Tuesday against Northern Manitoba, Stewart had one more goal and two assists.
He's been held off the scoresheet only once this season in six games. He has four goals and 10 points, averaging 1.67 points per game.
Justin Perreault:
He guided the Winnipeg Wild to a provincial title last year and a berth in the final at the Telus Cup Western Regionals.
Since joining the Kings, the 18-year-old has been sensational. He's won all five of his starts with a 0.80 goals-against average and a .968 save percentage.
In his five starts this year, Justin has two shutouts. His most recent came on Tuesday when he turned away 34 shots in a 7-0 win against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard.
