THE LOCAL LION – PART 1

If speed and skill are key ingredients to having a successful Junior A hockey career, then Roblin, Manitoba native Jaden Townsend should have a successful career.

The 5’8″ centerman is described by Kings scouting staff as a smooth skater with a very good shot who should put up great numbers next season for the AAA midget Parkland Rangers.

Townsend was selected by the Kings in the 3rd round, 31st overall in the 2014 MJHL draft year.

“Jaden is a good kid.  He has a quiet and almost shy demeanour. We think he will be a top 6 forward for us someday.  He has great skill and we like his skating.  He does very well in the face off circle on his draws as well”, commented GM and Head coach Marlin Murray.

Jaden, the son of John Townsend and Noreen Nykyforak had thirteen points last season including four goals.

Growing up Townsend’s favorite Kings player was Ryan Dreger.
“He was a team player and very good goal scorer” explained Townsend. “It would be an amazing experience to be a Dauphin King.  A local team where my family and friends could come and watch would be a dream come true.  I like how it’s very close to home. The Kings have a very well known organization and the coaches do a great job icing competitive teams at the Junior A level” stated Townsend.

Townsend lists baseball, track and field and golfing of his other sports interests. Colorado Avalanche is his favorite NHL team while right handed sniper Steve Stamkos is his favorite player.
