PORTAGE, MB - A penalty call 24 seconds in on the Kings set the tone for the night as Dauphin dropped a 5-1 decision to the Portage Terriers Wednesday.
Dauphin came out flat in the affair and ended up having to kill three straight penalties in the opening 20 minutes. Portage would jump out to a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes and start the middle frame on the power play.
In the second it was all Terriers as they scored three goals. Two in the first 10 minutes and one more in the second half of the frame to go up 4-0 after 40.
Dauphin's third period was better, but it was too little too late. Eamonn Miller notched his ninth of the season on a nice two on one set up by Carter Sawchuk. That was the only time the Kings found the net.
Dauphin gave up two power play goals against Wednesday and failed to score on seven opportunities. Portage also had seven chances.
Bryan Landsberger played well and couldn't be faulted for the loss. He turned aside 36 of 41 shots while his team had 21 shots on the Portage net.
The loss slips the Kings to 23-22-6 on the season. They'll now kick off a five game home stand at Credit Union Place on Friday when they host the Winkler Flyers. Game time is 7:30pm and it's presented by Dauphin Super 8!
