PORTAGE, MB – The Dauphin Kings played well for 40 minutes but it wasn’t enough in a 4-0 loss to the defending MJHL champion Portage Terriers Friday night.
Dauphin’s first and second periods were very strong, but the club couldn’t find the back of the net in the opening 40 minutes.
Portage nabbed two of their goals in the middle frame and two more in the third with goaltender Wesley Ellingsen snagging the shut out between the pipes for the Terriers. He stopped all 30 shots he faced while his counterpart Brandon Holtby turned aside 31 of the 35 shots he took on.
Man advantage opportunities were heavily in favour of Portage from the start of the game, but the Kings did not allow a goal against going 7 for 7 on the PK. Dauphin did have four power plays but most were shortened.
The Kings head home Friday and get set for their second game in as many nights Saturday when they take on the Steinbach Pistons at Credit Union Place. Puck drop is 7:30pm!
