Terriers Get By Kings

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings couldn't bury multiple scoring chances late and it cost them in a 3-2 loss to the Portage Terriers Sunday.

In a game that saw Dauphin trail from the opening two minutes the Kings could never gain the lead despite some early man advantage opportunities. At the end of the night they finished 1 for 5 on the Power Play and 1 for 2 on the Penalty Kill.

The first period saw Dauphin bounce back after the Terriers opened the scoring just over two minutes in. Ethan Stewart (17) tallied Dauphin's lone Power Play marker on the night at the 5:48 mark of the opening frame.  Stewart continues to be one of Dauphin's best players as of late with 16 points (6G, 10A) in his last nine outings. The tie was short lived as the Terriers would regain the lead less than two minutes later.

In the second period the Kings were again scored on in the opening minutes, eventually falling behind 3-1 after 40.

The third saw the Kings pick up their play and Rylan Gage (12) was rewarded off a nice feed from Nicholas Zaharias to cut the Portage lead to 3-2. Dauphin would get chances late but couldn't beat the Terriers' Logan Cunningham who stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced.

Hunter Bauer suffered the loss in goal, stopping 29 of 32 shots.

The Kings are now 29-22-2-0 on the season and remain in second place in the MJHL's West Division, they are even in games played with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines who sit 2 points back.

Now the Kings get set for four straight on the road before closing out the season on home ice March 14th. First up is a contest in Selkirk against the Steelers on Tuesday. Then Dauphin goes to Waywayseecappo (Friday), Virden (Saturday) and Northern Manitoba (Tuesday) to close out the swing. Game time on Tuesday in Selkirk is 7:30pm.
