Terriers Clip Kings

PORTAGE, MB - The Dauphin Kings played well but didn't get the bounces Saturday night in a 5-3 loss to the Portage Terriers.

The game was a back and forth affair with Dauphin showing no quit throughout the night. The Terriers got on the board first in the opening period but the Kings responded when Cole DeKoninck (18) notched his first of the night, jumping on a loose puck.

The two teams would trade goals again in the middle frame as well. The Kings would get a power play marker from Cordell Coleman, his first of the season.

In the third the Terriers once again jumped out front, making it 4-3 in the opening two minutes, but Cole DeKoninck (19) would launch a shot from the point to get the Kings back on even terms again.

The Terriers would get the go ahead goal with half a period to play. The Kings would have numerous chances to tie it up but couldn't finish. The Terriers added an empty netter to make it 5-3.

Levi Mitchell suffered the loss between the pipes. He stopped 29 of 33 shots while the Kings had 30.

Dauphin's power play was good Saturday, going 2 for 5. They allowed one goal on two chances on the penalty kill.

Now the Kings will return home for four of their final six games at Credit Union Place. The stretch begins Tuesday when the club welcomes the OCN Blizzard to town. Game time is 7:30pm! Dauphin is now 26-23-3-2 on the season and they remain 7th in the standings.
