DAUPHIN, MB - Ethan Stewart's determination, elite skills, and commitment to the game have led him to the international stage.
Hockey Canada has announced its rosters for the upcoming World Junior A Challenge, taking place from December 7 to 13 in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. Stewart will play on Team Canada West.
Ethan earned the right to play for Team Canada West after performing well at the Western All-Star Challenge with Team MJHL.
In the team's first game against Team SJHL, the Dauphin Kings' star had one goal. The event served as a pre-selection camp for Team Canada West.
A provincial champion with the Brandon U18 Wheat Kings two years ago, Stewart posted 10 goals and 33 points in 54 regular-season games last season as a rookie. He had a coming-out party in the playoffs with three goals and nine points.
This year, despite missing nine games due to injury, Ethan is still just outside the league's top 20 scorers and third in team scoring for Dauphin. He has seven goals and 12 assists.
Team Canada West features players from the MJHL, SJHL, AJHL, and SIJHL. Team Canada East features teams from the NOJHL, OJHL, CCHL, LHJAAAQ, and MHL.
Stewart and his teammates will play Team Canada East on December 3 and Team United States on December 5. Both of those games are pre-competition.
The tournament begins on Sunday, December 7, when Stewart and Team Canada West play Team Sweden. They play Canada East the following night and the United States on December 10 to end round-robin play.
The semifinals are on Friday, December 12, and the medal games are on December 13.
