DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings had a good push late but couldn't come away with anything in a 5-3 loss to the Steelers in Selkirk.
In the first period Cayden Glover (10) opened the scoring half a minute in with a wrist shot from the top of the face off circle but Selkirk would even things up later on.
The second period had the Kings again score early on. This time Gabriel Bugeaud (4), but again the Steelers would respond and eventually take the lead. However, late in the frame Matthew Thomas (3) would score on the man advantage to make it a 3-3 affair heading to the third.
In the final period Selkirk would be the team to score early, making it 4-3 a minute and half in. Dauphin would get chances throughout the third but couldn't finish. Selkirk would add an empty netter with a second left to play. A disappointing result considering the Kings held the lead twice in the contest.
Dauphin's man advantage continued to click at a 25% pace. It finished the night 1 for 4 while their Penalty Kill was 2 for 2.
Cole Sheffield suffered the loss in goal for the Kings. He stopped 39 of the 43 shots he faced. The Kings had 34 on the Selkirk net according to the online scoring summary. The shots in the arena were 31-27 for Selkirk. So we will have to wait and see what the correct amount is once things are finalized by the MJHL.
The Kings now prepare for game two of this weekend stretch. It goes tomorrow when they visit the Freeze in Winnipeg. The contest is a 6:00pm start.
