Stampeders Take Special Teams Battle

SWAN RIVER, MB - For the second straight game the Dauphin Kings lost a battle of special teams, falling 3-1 to the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Dauphin came out strong in this affair, outshooting the Stampeders 6-0 in the first few minutes of the game. The Kings would later take back to back penalties and Swan Valley would tally on the second to take a 1-0 lead into the room after 20.

In the second it was more of the same. The Kings started out well but penalty trouble cost them the game's second goal. The Stampeders would go up 2-0 into the final frame.

The third period was arguably Dauphin's best one of the night. They carried the play and eventually scored when Nakodan Greyeyes notched his 18th of the season on the power play. The Kings would continue to control things but couldn't finish on any of their late chances with the Stamps adding an empty netter to end the contest.

Matthias Smith took the loss in goal but played excellent, turning aside 33 of the 35 shots he faced while his team put 31 on the Swan Valley goal.

On the man advantage Dauphin scored once and the Stampeders tallied twice. The Kings were 1 for 8 and Swan Valley was 2 for 6.

The loss puts the Kings at 21-20-3-2 on the season. They'll look to snap their slide on Friday when they visit the Virden Oil Capitals. Game time is 7:30pm!
