SWAN RIVER, MB - The Dauphin Kings had a 2-0 and 3-2 lead but couldn't hold on in a 5-3 loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders Wednesday night.
The Kings had a solid start to the contest, a change from games past, but they couldn't pick up any goals in the opening period as the two clubs skated to a 0-0 draw.
The middle frame saw Dauphin come alive. First Riley Shamray notched his first of the season, then Carter Sawchuk picked up his third to give the Kings a quick 2-0 advantage early in the second. Swan Valley would battle back however, but the Kings would answer back to make it 3-2 when Nakodan Greyeyes tallied his first MJHL goal. Before the end of the second Swan Valley would even things up to make it 3-3 heading into the final frame.
The third period saw the Kings come out and have some chances, but with just over five minutes to play Swan Valley would score to go up 4-3. They would add another to make it a 5-3 final.
Brennan Kitchen suffered the loss in goal for the Kings. Officially he stopped 35 of 40 shots while his team fired 25 on the Swan Valley net.
Power plays were in favour of the Stampeders on Wednesday. They scored one on the man advantage while Dauphin went goalless.
Now the Kings return home for just their second and third home games of the regular season. They'll host the Selkirk Steelers twice, first on Friday then on Saturday. Both games go at 7:30pm.
Dauphin's record is now 3-3-0 on the year.
