Stampeders Edge Kings In Season Opener

SWAN RIVER, MB – The Dauphin Kings outplayed the Swan Valley Stampeders for the most part in Friday’s season opener, but couldn’t bury their chances and it ended up costing them two point. 

Stampeders goalie Brett Evans was excellent in net for Swan Valley, stopping 44 of the 45 shots he faced. His counterpart, Brandon Holtby, turned aside 32 of 35 shots Friday. 

The Kings hit a number of posts in the tilt Keaton Leininger being the only player to beat Evans off a Trevor Kavanaugh point shot in the third period. The second assist on Dauphin’s lone tally went to Darren Gisti. 

Power Plays had the Kings finishing the night 0 for 3 while Swan Valley went 0 for 2. 

Tanner Koroscil led the way for the Stampeders on the score sheet, notching two goals on the evening. 

The Kings will look to regroup quickly as they play their second game of the 2016-17 season Saturday night. They’ll head further north to OCN to meet the Blizzard in their home opener. Game time is 7:00pm.
