Stampeders Clip Kings

WINNIPEG, MB - The Dauphin Kings got off to a slow start and they couldn't recover from it in a 3-2 loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders Monday night at the MJHL Showcase.

The Kings spotted the Stampeders two goals in the opening three minutes and were behind 2-0 after the first period.

In the second Dauphin woke up and controlled most of the period. Cole DeKoninck notched his second of the campaign on the man advantage off a nice back door pass by Nakodan Greyeyes. The assist by Greyeyes extends his season starting point streak to four games. Baron Thompson drew the second assist. However, the 2-1 disadvantage was short-lived as Swan tallied moments later to make it a 3-1 tilt after 40.

The third period was arguably Dauphin's best period of the season. The club dominated the Stampeders and Parker Fofonoff was rewarded with his first MJHL goal early in the frame. The assists went to his line mates Braeden Young and Jaxon Heeney.

Dauphin would continue to outplay Swan Valley in the third but couldn't tie it up, eventually falling 3-2. The Kings out shot the Stampeders 38-31 in the contest with Bryan Landsberger taking the loss between the pipes.

Both teams scored on the man advantage. Dauphin was 1 for 5 while Swan Valley was 1 for 4.

The loss puts the Kings at 1-3-0 on the season. They'll try to rebound Tuesday when they conclude their MJHL Showcase schedule against the Selkirk Steelers. Game time is the same as Monday's, 6:00pm.
