Smelski Scores Two, Kings Beat Neepawa

DAUPHIN, MB - Dauphin's Bradyn Smelski notched two goals to help lead his hometown Kings to a 5-2 victory over the Neepawa Natives Friday night at Credit Union Place.

Things did not start off great for the Kings. They struggled in the opening period. The first 20 ended up being scoreless, but Dauphin was out shot 10-5 by the Natives.

In the middle frame the scoring started. First Carter Sawchuk tallied his 12th of the season when he scored on a breakaway. Neepawa would even things up a couple minutes later, just before the four minute mark. Bradyn Smelski (3) would score to restore Dauphin's lead to 2-1 after 40 minutes.

The final period had the Kings give up their lead just 35 seconds in but Eamonn Miller (7) would score the eventual game winner with half a period to play. Grady Hobbs (11) would give Dauphin some insurance with last than five minutes to play. Smelski (4) would score once again two minutes later to put icing on the cake.

Bryan Landsberger continues to play strong for Dauphin. He stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced while his team put 34 on the Neepawa net.

Both teams failed to score on a couple man advantages Friday.

The win improves the Kings' record to 21-19-4 on the season. They'll conclude their four game home stand on Wednesday when they welcome the OCN Blizzard to Credit Union Place for the first time this season. Game time is slated for 7:30pm!
