DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings extended their early season winning streak to four games after a 2-1 victory Tuesday night in Swan River.
It was a contest that saw Dauphin get better as the night went on.
In the first period the Kings struggled to find their legs early and the Stampeders capitalized, scoring just over a minute in. Dauphin would eventually get going and earn a late period power play and in his first game back Havryil Simchuk would score his first of the campaign to tie things up after 20.
The Kings would continue their strong play into the second period, tallying the period's first 11 shots. Swan Valley didn't get their first shot of the frame until the 13 minute mark. Dauphin would end up outshooting Swan Valley 15-3 in the second but the score remained 1-1.
In the third period the Kings continued to get chances and eventually they were rewarded when Sheldon Shyiak notched his first of the year with five minutes to play. It turned out to be the game winner.
Power plays finished with Dauphin going 1 for 3, Swan Valley was 0 for 4.
Shots were 31-18 for the Kings.
Goalie Bryson Yaschyshyn stood tall in the dying minutes, helping his team to the fourth straight win.
The Kings are now 4-1-0-0 on the season, they'll get Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off before returning to action on Saturday when they visit the Winnipeg Monarchs for the first time this season. After that tilt they'll take on Niverville Sunday afternoon. The next contest at Credit Union Place goes down on Saturday October 18th.
