Sheffield, Kings Top Winkler 3-1

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings got the response they needed Sunday night following two losses with a big 3-1 road victory over the Flyers in Winkler.

The first 20 minutes was pretty quiet for about the first 15 minutes. In the final five minutes both teams scored. Winkler opened the scoring on the man advantage and then the Kings also scored on Winkler's Power Play. Rylan Gage's second of the season was a shorthanded marker to tie it up at one after 20. Dauphin now leads the league with four shorthanded goals on the young season.

In the second period it took #71 just 17 seconds to notch his 12th of the season. The goal extended Cayden Glover's goal scoring streak to seven games. Midway through the period there were some shenanigans which eventually saw Sheldon Shyiak tossed for fighting. Overall it was a penalty heavy period with 44 total minutes handed out.

The final frame saw the Kings control things with a little pressure from the Flyers down the stretch. Gavin Nemis (2) would score Dauphin's insurance marker to seal the deal.

Cole Sheffield returned to the net for the Kings on Sunday after getting the night off on Saturday. He turned aside 33 of the 34 shots he faced and was excellent in the win. His team had 31 shots.

The Kings ended the night 1 for 7 on the man advantage and 5 for 6 on the Penalty Kill.

The Kings, now 8-4-0-0, will return to Dauphin tonight and be back in the friendly confines of Credit Union Place on Friday when they welcome the Winnipeg Blues to town and then the Winkler Flyers on Sunday.

Friday's game is a 7:30pm puck drop while Sunday's is a 4:00pm start.
