If you have met Cole Sheffield already, you will know how friendly he is and he’s always ready for a chat. With a smile on his face, Sheffield is happy to be in Dauphin as he plays his first season with the Kings.

Coming over from the French River Rapids, Sheffield won his first game as a King on October 2 when he turned away 17 shots in a 6-4 win against the Winnipeg Blues.

Then fast forward a week and Sheffield put on a show in front of his home fans. Opening a weekend series against the Steinbach Pistons, Cole turned away 49 shots in a thrilling 5-3 win for the Kings. It was Cole’s best performance as a King as he backstopped the team to their fourth win and they handed the Pistons their first loss in the process.

“That was a huge win for us and we all knew it was a big game heading in,” said Sheffield. “I knew I had to perform and make big saves and the entire team played great in front of me.”

After Sunday’s game against Steinbach, Sheffield enjoyed the rest of his Thanksgiving weekend with the Keeping family where he billets. Dan Keeping is also the team’s goaltending coach.

“There is a lot of hockey talk, it’s a hockey household and I really enjoy it,” said Sheffield. “If I ever have any questions, Dan is always willing to talk. It’s a great spot to be and I’m really happy with it.”

Come Tuesday, Sheffield was back on the ice with his teammates as they prepare for a home-and-home with the Selkirk Steelers this weekend.

Cole admits to taking some time adapting to play in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League after spending last year in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League. Now he’s looking forward to moving ahead and his goal is to help his team by making big saves, something he has already shown that he can do.

Sheffield is a big sports fan in all and his favourite team in the NHL is the Chicago Blackhawks. Let’s get to know Cole a bit more.
