DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings gave up two early power play goals against and they couldn't recover in a 4-1 loss to the Steinbach Pistons Friday night at Credit Union Place.
After the opening two man advantage goals by the Pistons the games settled down and saw Dauphin carry things for a good chunk of the first and second periods.
In the final frame the Pistons scored early to take the wind out of the Kings' sails. Right after Baron Thompson (23) notched a goal to make it a 3-1 affair. Later in the period Steinbach would regain their three goal lead and put the contest away.
Matthias Smith suffered the loss between the pipes. He turned aside 24 of 28 shots while his team had 20.
On the power play side the Kings had early chances before the Pistons opened the scoring, but they had no finish. They ended the night 0 for 3 on the power play while Steinbach went 2 for 3.
The loss drops the Kings to 24-21-3-2 on the season. A Selkirk loss in OCN keeps the Kings five points up on the Steelers and three back of the Virden Oil Capitals and Wayway Wolverines who were both off on Friday. Dauphin will look to rebound on Saturday when they play the back end of this double header with the Pistons. Game time Saturday night is 7:30pm and it's presented by Dauphin Super 8!
