Pistons Take Advantage Of Injured Kings

STEINBACH, MB - The Dauphin Kings played with a shortened lineup as the injury bug reared its ugly head in a 6-2 loss to the Steinbach Pistons Saturday night.

Dauphin was without a number of regulars Saturday night and they lost goaltender Matthias Smith midway through the second period.

In the first Dauphin played well considering the circumstances, but couldn't tally on an early man advantage opportunity. This Pistons would go up 2-0 in the first 20.

The second period saw Steinbach take over and grab a 4-0 lead heading into the final frame.

The third saw Dauphin play a little better with Cole DeKoninck (8) and Noah Wagner (3) both grabbing power play goals but it was too little too late on this night.

Matthias Smith left the game when the Kings trailed 2-0. He made 16 saves on 18 shots. Zach Grouette, who started with 8:02 left in the second, turned away nine of 13 shots.

Dauphin finished the night 2 for 6 on the power play while Steinbach was 1 for 2.

The loss puts the Kings at 8-9-3-2 on the season and the club will now look to regroup and close out their three game road swing Sunday in Winnipeg. Game time is 2:00pm!
