Pistons Slip Past Kings In Steinbach

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings and Steinbach Pistons played a back and forth affair that was eventually won by the home team Saturday night.

The first period was a flat one for the Kings. They gave up 17 shots and two goals while putting up just five shots themselves. Starting goalie Bryson Yaschyshyn was one of the lone bright spots for the Kings in the opening period.

The second period was the polar oppisite for Dauphin. The Kings opened it with a man advantage and it seemed to generate some momentum for them. After it expired Joey Kubas (5) scored to cut Steinbach's lead in half. The Kings ended up with the first seven shots of the period before the Pistons got their first one over seven minutes in. Kubas (6) would even up the game on a two on one, keeping the puck and shooting it home. Dauphin would take their first lead when Ethan Stewart tallied on a Power Play opportunity. The game then turned into a back and forth affair. The Pistons would tie it up at three before Nicolas Zaharias (4) made a great tip in front to give the Kings a 4-3 lead. However, before the period was out Steinbach would make it all square at four. Either way, a much better period for Dauphin.

The final frame saw the Pistons come out hot and take the lead less than two minutes in, but Dauphin would respond with Nicolas Zaharias (5) grabbing his second of the night. Then the Kings would gain a 6-5 lead with Kale Pratte (5) scoring on a great pass by Brody Wytinck. Steinbach would then score right after the conclusion of a man advantage to make it 6-6. The Pistons would score the game winning goal in the last minute with the puck bouncing off a Dauphin player on the back check. They'd add an empty netter to make it an 8-6 final.

Power Plays were in favour of Steinbach Saturday. The Pistons had five chances while the Kings had just three.

Bryson Yaschyshyn was good in goal for Dauphin and couldn't be faulted in the loss. He stopped 40 of the 47 shots he faced. The Kings had 30.

Dauphin moves to 10-3-1-0 on the season. They'll be back in play again in less than 24 hours when they battle the surging Nighthawks in Niverville tomorrow afternoon. Opening face off is 3:00pm. The next Kings home game is Sunday November 9th against Portage.
