VIRDEN, MB - The Dauphin Kings weren't very nice guests Sunday night as they skated to a 2-1 shootout win over the Oil Capitals in Virden's home opener at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.
Brennan Kitchen has picked up right where he left off last season. Sunday he stopped 45 of 46 shots and was a key reason the Kings were able to snag two points in the tilt.
In the game there were just two goals. Dauphin got theirs when Marc-Antoine Couture scored his first MJHL goal in the second period with Bronson Kelly drawing the lone assist.
Virden tied things up in the third period when they scored on their third straight power play opportunity.
The two teams traded chances in the extra frame but neither could capitalize. In the shootout no one was able to score until Nakodan Greyeyes muscled one through in the fifth round of the breakaway contest.
Special Teams were important in Sunday's contest. Virden 1 for 8 while the Kings had just four opportunities and did not score. Dauphin's final shot total was 28.
The Kings now get a week off from game action before going out on a three game in three night road swing. The stretch starts Friday night in Selkirk. Game time is slated for 7:30pm!
With the win Dauphin improves to 2-0-0 on the young season.
