Oil Capitals Trip Up Kings

VIRDEN, MB - The Dauphin Kings gave up three goals in the final period in a 5-2 loss to the Virden Oil Capitals Sunday night, closing out their season with a loss.

Dauphin started the game well with Noah Wagner (6) scoring to give his team a 1-0 lead. Virden would score late to make it a 1-1.

In the second period Dauphin continued to control things and Cole DeKoninck (21) was rewarded, giving the club a 2-1 lead. A late goal by Virden made it a 2-2 game. It was a tough break for the Kings as it appeared goalie Levi Mitchell was tripped up behind his net and couldn't get back into position in time to make a save.

Virden would score three times in the third period to make it a 5-2 final.

Both teams did not score on the man advantage Sunday. Dauphin went 0 for 5 while Virden was 0 for 4.

Levi Mitchell suffered the loss in goal. Stopping 29 of 34 shots while his team had 40 on the Virden net.

The loss concludes Dauphin's season with a record of 31-24-3-2. They will meet the Portage Terriers in the first round of the MJHL Playoffs which will begin next week. Stay tuned for details on the schedule and ticket sales!
