DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings dominated the Neepawa Natives but couldn't get two points in a 6-5 shootout loss on TV Tuesday.
It was the Natives who jumped out to an early lead Tuesday, scoring just 10 seconds into the affair. Neepawa would tally three times in the opening 20 minutes and skate away with a 3-2 advantage. Kadin Ilott scored his first MJHL goal for the Kings while Nakodan Greyeyes (4) added the other marker in the first.
The middle frame saw Dauphin tally twice and Neepawa once to end up 4-4 through 40. Avery Smith (2) and Cole DeKoninck (3) both scored for the Kings as the club controlled the second half of the period and out shot Neepawa 26-5 in the second when it was all said and done.
The third period had Neepawa scoring early and going up 5-4 just under two minutes in. Grady Hobbs (1) notched his third point of the night for the Kings when he tied the game with just under five minutes to play.
The overtime frame solved nothing. Dauphin out shot Neepawa 64-36 when the final buzzer rang.
Neepawa scored three times on the man advantage while Dauphin did not score once on the power play.
Duncan McGovern took the loss between the pipes but couldn't be faulted, he was left out to dry by his defence a number of times throughout the night.
The Kings see the record fall to 1-5-0-1 on the season. They gain a point and will look for two in their next affair which comes Friday on the road in Selkirk. It's the start of a three game in three night road swing.
The Kings' next home game comes on Saturday October 19th against the Neepawa Natives once again. That contest is a 7:30pm puck drop!
