Millionaires Take Round One With Kings

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings played well but couldn't find any finish in their second home pre season game, falling 5-2 to the SJHL's Melville Millionaires Thursday night.

Dauphin's start was very good. The team out shot Melville 10-8 in the opening 20 minutes and had numerous chances, but they couldn't hit the scoresheet. The Millionaires tallied twice.

In the second period the Kings were able to get on the board, but only after dropping another two to Melville. After 40 minutes Dauphin trailed 4-1. The Kings' lone goal came off a nice tip from American Carter Eha, who tipped home a Cole DeKoninck point shot late in the frame. Grady Hobbs has the second assist.

The third period saw the Kings come alive again and the club was rewarded when Shon-Olivier Roy notched his first of the pre season off a nice setup from Koby Morrisseau. The goal got the Kings within two but Melville would finish things off later in the period, making it 5-2.

Shots on goal were 41-27 for the Kings. Ethan Slobodzian started the affair. He gave up four goals on 17 shots. Zach Grouette stepped in midway through the second period and turned away nine of the 10 shots he took on.

Penalties were all over the place Thursday. The game saw two fights and a number of man advantage opportunities. Melville scored twice on the power play while Dauphin did not capitalize.

The Kings now get a day off before returning to play on Saturday when they visit the Natives in Neepawa. After that they'll return home and play their fifth of six exhibition games against Melville on Monday. Start time Saturday is 7:00pm in Neepawa. Monday's affair begins at 7:30pm!
