Malchuk leads on and off the ice

Kings fans got a small sample size of what Parker Malchuk could do last season when he played six games with the club before the season was cancelled.

This year, the 20-year-old from Birtle is back for his final junior season and the former Yellowhead Chief is putting together a great senior season with six goals and 27 assists.

“I’m definitely happy with what I’ve done this season,” said Malchuk. “More importantly; however, I’m very pleased with what the team has been able to do.”

Coming off a tough loss against OCN, the club is putting that game behind them as they prepare for a huge home and home with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. The top two teams in the West Division will play twice this weekend, first in Wayway on Friday. Dauphin is 3-1 against the Wolverines entering the game.

“We have to treat every game like a playoff game,” offered Malchuk. “Everyone has to bring their A-game this weekend, Wayway has some solid scoring and good goaltending. We’re confident with our abilities and we’re looking forward to the weekend.”

Parker is enjoying every second being a King and he was given the opportunity to be the team’s captain this season. The team’s alternate captains are Cordell Coleman, Kaden Bryant and Colby Jaquet. This season is Parker’s first season of his junior career as a part of the leadership group

“It’s a huge honour, I was so excited when I found out that I was going to be the team’s captain,” said Malchuk. “It means a ton to me, this is a great organization.”

Parker also says this is one of the closest teams he has ever been on, everyone on the team treats each other with respect and they all trust each other.

Friday’s game in Waywayseecappo can be seen on HockeyTV or you can listen to the game on 730CKDM with Darnell Duff.
