Every season, all teams in the MJHL are allowed to protect up to two local players within a set area prior to the MJHL Bantam Draft. The Dauphin Kings area consists of the City of Dauphin. This season the Kings were proud to select Dauphin products Vincent Hughes and this week’s Local Lion Tanyon Koshowski.
Koshowski spent last season with the Parkland AAA Bantam Rangers. The left handed forward had a good start into playing elite hockey, appearing in 29 games with the Rangers and picking up 5 points and 18 penalty minutes. Koshowski also participated in the Dauphin Kings Spring Camp where he did turn some heads.
“Tanyon has a lot of raw tools and if he works to develop them, we could see him in a Kings jersey someday.” said Kings Head Coach Marlin Murray. “He’s new to our program and we’ve been happy with what we’ve seen so far. He has good size, he works hard and is developing a touch around the net. He has good natural instincts for the game. Tanyon will still have to work hard to develop his skating and overall game but he has a good attitude and we’re happy with his progress so far. We will be watching his development closely for the next couple of years.”
Being a Dauphin boy, Koshowski has tremendous amount of pride now being a part of the Kings family.
“It’s my hometown team.” said Koshowski. “I grew up watching the Kings and dreaming that I was part of the team. My favourite player was #17 Luke Stokotelny, I always felt he was their best player.”
“It would mean a lot to me personally to be a King because it would make me the only member of my family to have played for them. That would be a huge honour.”
Away from hockey, the son of Tammy Koshowski enjoys being outside. Tanyon likes quadding and dirt biking and generally any outdoor activity.
The Edmonton Oilers are Tanyon’s favourite NHL team and “the Great 8”, Alex Ovechkin is his favourite player. Green is Koshowski’s colour of choice and if given the chance he would wear number 17. The timeless hockey classic “Slap Shot” is his favourite movie.
