Local Lion Part 11

Hockey seems to run in the blood of some people and some families. Nothing more true can be said about Taran Lacquette and the Lacquette family.

Taran Lacquette will be entering his second season with the Kings this year. Last season the 5.10, 220 lb defenceman put up twelve points, including five goals in 57 games with the pride.

“Quetter had a pretty good season.” stated Kings Assistant Coach Marc Berry. “I’m sure he will tell you that he expected to have better numbers, but the MJHL is a tough league on young defencemen. The experience he gained playing in all situations last season will really benefit him going into year two. Quetter has a great overall skill set and passes the puck like a pro. He can play the game anyway you want to bring it. He has the talent to play a skill game, yet he can muck it up and win battles with anyone in the league.”

The same could be said for another player that put on a Kings jersey in the 2010-2011 season, Eddie Friessen, who Lacquette says was his favourite King growing up.

“He was a good defenceman. I liked his style.” said Lacquette

Lacquette comes from a hockey family. All three of Terrance and Anita Lacquette’s children grew up on the ice. Both of Taran’s older sisters, Tara and Bridgette, played at high levels of hockey. At this past Woman’s World Championships in Sweden, Bridgette brought home a Silver Medal as part of the Canadian Woman’s National Team. Needless to say there have been some great role models for Taran to follow.

Playing close to family and friends means a lot to Lacquette. And with the support he gets, its hard to blame him.

“I love it.” said Lacquette. “The Kings are a great organization and they’re close to home. I get to play a sport I love close to home.”

In the offseason, Lacquette likes his outdoor sports. He golfs a little and plays baseball. He also works construction with his dad, Terrance.

Lacquer’s favourite NHL team is the Montreal Canadiens and his favourite player is Hall of Fame defenceman Nick Lidstrom. 22 is Lacquette’s number of choice and he states blue as his favourite colour. The popular “Fast and Furious” is Lacqette’s current favourite movie.
