Leininger, Kings Beat Terriers 3-1

PORTAGE, MB – Keaton Leininger scored in each period to help the Dauphin Kings snap their slump in a 3-1 victory over the Portage Terriers Sunday night.

In the opening period Leininger opened the scoring with a snap shot from the slot. Portage would later tie things up in the frame on a power play goal.

In the second period it was more of the same from Leininger, who wristed one home from the low slot on the man advantage. The Bismarck, North Dakota product would then add an empty netter for the Kings late in the third for a hatrick.

Riese Gaber quietly had a good night for the Kings as well. He picked up the first assist on all three of Leininger’s goals. Other point getters were Riley Shamray and Ashton Clark.

With just one Power Play on the night the Kings finished 1 for 1 while Portage was 1 for 5.

One more bright spot for Dauphin saw goaltender Duncan McGovern (1-1) grab his first Manitoba Junior Hockey League win in goal. He stopped 25 of 26 shots while the Kings had 17 total. Through two games with Dauphin McGovern has a disgusting .949 save percentage and a 1.51 goals against average.

Dauphin will now get a few days off before resuming their regular season. Next up is a contest with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Thursday, then the Kings return home on Friday to battle the Neepawa Natives at Credit Union Place. Dauphin is now 11-25-5 on the campaign and have won two straight games in Portage.
