Kings, Wolverines To Meet In Playoffs After Wayway Win

DAUPHIN, MB - The Waywayseecappo Wolverines scored with one second left in the third period to edge the Dauphin Kings 2-1 at Credit Union Place Saturday night.

It was the second straight night the Kings iced a youthful lineup, giving their veteran players some rest before the post season begins. The group played well on Dauphin's awards night.

In the opening two periods the two teams skated to a 0-0 tie with both clubs trading chances. Sheldon Shyiak (2) would break through for the Kings early in the third period before Waywayseecappo would tie it up. Then in the dying seconds the Wolverines would find a loose puck and fire it home to get the win, sending them to a first round series with the Kings beginning next week.

Bryson Yaschyshyn went the distance between the pipes for the Kings and played very well. He stopped 29 of 31 shots while his team fired 29 on the Wayway net.

Special Teams had the Kings finish 0 for 2 on the Power Play and 3 for 3 on the Penalty Kill.

The Kings finish the 2024-25 MJHL Season with 37 wins, 18 losses, two overtime losses and one shootout loss. First in the West Division.

With the results tonight it means the Dauphin Kings will meet the Wolverines in the opening round of the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Virden Oil Capitals have missed the post season for the first time since their first year in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
