The Dauphin Kings are in a heated race for first place in the West Division. They’re just five points back of the OCN Blizzard for that spot.
Tonight, the club opens up a home-and-home with the 12th place team in the league, the Selkirk Steelers. Selkirk has just one win this season and they’re just one point ahead of the Winnipeg Freeze.
Dauphin is 2-0 against the Steelers this season, with a 3-2 win and a 7-3 win. Despite their struggles, Doug Hedley knows Selkirk can still compete.
“I don’t think their record is indicative of their team,” said Hedley. “They have some top end players and have lost many close games. We have to focus on our play and capitalize on our end.”
The Kings come into the game fresh off one of their best performances of the season as they shutout Waywayseecappo on Monday night. That win followed a 6-4 defeat two nights prior.
At 10-6-2 entering Friday’s game, Dauphin has won six of their last eight games and the team’s offence has scored 33 goals in that span. This weekend marks the final two times that Dauphin and Selkirk will play against each other in the regular season
