TONIGHT'S MATCHUP
KINGS (29-21-2-0) - 2nd in West
The only team the Dauphin Kings have not beat this season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League are the Portage Terriers. Dauphin has fallen three time to Portage so far this season. Twice they lost to the Terriers in November and in early January as well.
This is the final game of the weekend for the Kings but the intensity in the schedule will pick up with three games next week including one on Tuesday when Dauphin goes to Selkirk to face the Steelers. After that it's three more on the road including games Friday in Waywayseecappo and Saturday in Virden. Depending on how the stretch goes it could give much more clarity as to where the Kings will finish in the West Division Standings.
Special Teams were good in Neepawa for Dauphin. The Kings Penalty Kill was not put to work for the second straight game and remains at 78.8%, which is still 9th in the league. Dauphin's Power Play went 1 for 3 on Friday and is 6th in the MJHL at 23.4%.
Matthew O'Sullivan (23G, 22A) leads the Kings in points with 45.
TERRIERS (33-17-1-0) - 4th in East
It's a been an up and down 2026 for the Portage Terriers so far. Lately the club has found their footing after a 3-2 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders on Saturday. Earlier in the week the Terriers dropped a 9-1 loss to the Nighthawks in Niverville. Since the start of the calendar year Portage has 10 wins and 10 losses. In there is a four game losing skid and a five game winning streak.
The Terriers can really only move one spot in the next two weeks. Currently they sit 4th in the East Division, two points behind Winkler for 3rd and they have two games in hand. Both teams are battling to decide who will play Steinbach who is in 2nd and Niverville in 1st.
Portage's Special Teams are uncharacteristically near the bottom of the MJHL. Their Power Play (18.6%) and Penalty Kill (75.7%) both sit 10th overall.
Trevor Hill (39G, 24A) and Rhett Platt (21G, 41A) sit 9th and 10th in MJHL scoring. Hill leads the Terriers with 63 points while Platt is one back at 62.
