TONIGHT'S MATCHUP

KINGS (21-16-1-0) - 3rd in West

The Kings will look to stop the bleeding tonight when they entertain Niverville. Dauphin can take solace in the fact they have beat the top team in the MJHL once already this year and if it weren't for a couple of bad decisions late in the second game they met the Kings would have two wins against the Nighthawks.

Dauphin plays four of their next five games on home ice as they look to the friendly confines of Credit Union Place to help them with getting back on track. Earlier in the season the Kings stood tall at home but have struggled to string wins together.

The Kings' Special Teams were ok in Tuesday loss to Wayway. They were 2 for 2 on the Penalty Kill but failed to score on two chances on the Power Play. Both remain in the bottom half of the league when it comes to production.

Both Matthew O'Sullivan (20G, 15A) and Nicholas Zaharias (10G, 25A) lead the Kings in points with 35.

NIGHTHAWKS (34-2-1-0) - 1st In East

The Niverville Nighthawks remain the top team in the MJHL and that will likely be the case when the season comes to a close in the middle of March. The Nighthawks have basically held top spot in the MJHL since mid October and are currently 10 points clear of the Steinbach Pistons who are second in the East Division.

The problem that may arise for the Nighthawks will be the lack of meaningful games down the stretch. With top spot in the East Division all but clinched Niverville will have a tough time getting up for games as they wait for the playoffs to arrive. This has been a problem in the past for many teams, including the Dauphin Kings. Teams that dominate their division, get to the post season and have to flip a switch to get to the level of intense playoff hockey. It can be easier said than done sometimes.

Special Teams for the Nighthawks are both atop the MJHL. Their Power Play is at 26.1% and their Penalty Kill is at 86.2%.

Hayden Wheddon (19G, 40A) and Adam Vigfusson (23G, 33A) are the top two scorers in the MJHL. Vigfusson has 56 points while Wheddon leads the league with 59.
