NEEPAWA, MB - The Dauphin Kings and Neepawa Natives played in a chippy affair Saturday night with the Kings coming away with the victory, 4-3 in a shootout.
Dauphin's opening period was very good and the club was rewarded with two goals from Bradyn Smelski (1) and Avery Smith while Bryan Landsberger stood tall in goal.
In the second period the Natives got on the board to cut the Dauphin lead in half, but Leeam Tivers would tip home a power play marker to make it 3-1 Kings heading to the third.
The final frame had Neepawa getting a number of power play opportunities. They eventually got the game back on even terms and sent the contest to overtime.
In the extra frame the Kings outplayed the Natives and had a man advantage of their own, but couldn't finish.
The two teams would then advance to a nine round shootout. Leeam Tivers, Grady Birk & Ty Brant (Winner) would all score in the breakaway contest while Bryan Landsberger stopped seven of the nine shooters he faced.
The win puts Dauphin at 2-2-0 in the pre season. They'll now get a day off before returning to play on Monday when they host the SJHL's Melville Millionaires once again at Credit Union Place at 7:30pm! Don't forget before the game the Kings will hold their Billet & Volunteer Appreciation BBQ. It starts at 4:00pm!
