Kings Take Seven At MJHL Draft

WINNIPEG, MB - The Dauphin Kings selected seven players at the 2018 MJHL Draft Sunday morning in Winnipeg. 

The event saw the Kings take basically a full starting lineup and a spare as they picked four forwards, two defenceman and a goaltender.

Here's an interview with Kings Head Coach & GM Doug Hedley as he summarizes the weekend from Winnipeg with Director of Marketing & Media Relations Christian Laughland...

ROUND 1 - 2nd OVERALL - SLOAN STANICK (FW)

Sloan Stanick spent last season with the Yellowhead Bantam Chiefs hockey club. He put up 28 goals and 31 assists for 59 points in 36 contests.

The Forrest forward stands at 5'6 and 133 lbs.

ROUND 2 - 13th OVERALL - DAWSON PASTERNAK (D)

Dawson Pasternak can play both forward and defence!

Listed as a D-man with his Bantam Winnipeg Hawks club, Pasternak notched 15 goals and 30 assists for 45 points in 31 games last season.

When he attended Kings Spring Camp a couple months ago the 5'4, 116 pound Winnipeg product played at forward and did not look out of place. 

ROUND 3 - 24th OVERALL - ASHTON ROMANIUK (FW)

La Broquerie's Ashton Romaniuk spent last season with the Bantam Eastman Selects!

The forward, who draws in at 5'11 and 156 pounds, was very good for his hockey club in 2018-19. He notched almost a point per game, scoring 22 goals and adding 10 assists for 32 points in 34 affairs. 

ROUND 3 - 26th OVERALL - JAYDEN JUBENVILL (FW)

A Parkland product, there are not many in the Dauphin, Gilbert Plains and Grandview areas that don't know the name Jubenvill. 

Jayden Jubenvill was almost a point per game last season with the Bantam Parkland Rangers. At forward he tallied 13 goals and added 21 helpers in 36 tilts. 

Jubenvill stands at 5'6 and 137 pounds. 

ROUND 4 - 35th OVERALL - NOLAN WICKHAM (D)

The second D-man of the draft for the Kings, Nolan Wickham played for the Bantam Southwest Cougars this past season.

The Waskada product recorded 31 points (8G, 23A) and comes in at 6' and 151 pounds. 

ROUND 5 - 55th OVERALL - BRANDON THIESSEN (FW)

The Kings went back to the Eastman region for their fifth round pick, grabbing forward Brandon Thiessen.

From Blumenort, Thiessen is 6' and 168 pounds. 

Last season with the Selects Thiessen fired up 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points in 34 games. 

ROUND 6 - 57th OVERALL - KEATON ZIPRICK (G)

The Kings closed out the MJHL Draft by mixing in another Parkland product. 

For their seventh and final pick the club selected 5'10, 167 pound goaltender Keaton Ziprick.

Ziprick, who hails from Russell, was superb in goal for the Bantam Parkland Rangers. He went 19-3 with a .881 Save Percentage and a 3.51 Goals Against Average. He also treated the fans to two shutouts in the 2018-19 campaign.
