Kings Take Out Nighthawks

DAUPHIN, MB - The Kings scored four times in the second period and Cole Sheffiled stood tall as Dauphin took down the Niverville Nighthawks 4-3 at Credit Union Place Sunday evening.

Dauphin started a little slow in the opening 20 minutes but Cole Sheffield kept his team in the game with some big saves. Niverville was the only team to score in the first.

In the second period Havryil Simchuk (10) continued his superb play as of later, opening the scoring just over six minutes in. His goal was followed up by Matt Haun (5) a minute and a half later. Then Simchuk set up a tap-in goal for Ethan Stewart (8) to give Dauphin a 3-2 advantage after the Nighthawks had tied it up earlier. Then with less than a second to play Rylan Gage made a great set up pass to Matt Haun (6) who buried his second of the night with 0.2 seconds left on the clock.

The four goals were all the Kings would need. Niverville would make it close late but Cole Sheffield was again excellent in the third period to give Dauphin the 4-3 victory.

Sheffield stopped 27 of 30 shots. His team once again out shot their opponents. On Sunday they had 52 on the Niverville net.

Dauphin also won the Special Teams battle against one of the league's best Power Plays and Penalty Kills. Dauphin went 1 for 4 on the Power Play and 4 for 4 on the Penalty Kill.

The decision is Dauphin's 31st of the season and puts them at 31-13-1-1. They remain first in the West Division and are now nine points clear of the Northern Manitoba Blizzard, even in games played.

The Kings get a day off before they close out their four game home stand on Tuesday when they host the Northern Manitoba Blizzard. After that Dauphin hits the road for four straight contests starting with another three game in three night stretch over the weekend. The Kings' next home game is Saturday March 1st at 7:30pm against the Niverville Nighthawks again.
