DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings and Swan Valley Stampeders traded goals all night, but in the end it was the Kings coming out on top 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night at Credit Union Place.
Both teams had a goal in the first, second and third periods.
In the opening frame the Stampeders tallied first, but Dauphin responded on the power play when Carter Sawchuk fired in his 6th of the season on a nice passing play.
The two teams went into the middle frame tied 1-1. This time the Kings got the period's first goal when Riley Shamray notched his 5th of the year, another goal on the power play for Dauphin. Swan Valley would answer back about four minutes later.
In the third period Dauphin once again opened the scoring with Eamonn Miller (2) getting another one against Swan Valley. With a couple penalty calls against the Kings late in the third period the Stampeders were able to finally get the game on even terms.
Overtime saw both groups trade opportunities but ultimately nothing was solved.
The shootout saw George King and Leeam Tivers both score for the Kings while the Stampeders couldn't get anything by Brennan Kitchen. Kitchen stopped 47 of 50 shots in Saturday's affair while his team had 27 shots on the Swan Valley net.
The win improves the Kings record to 10-7-1 on the season and sees them finish with three of a possible four points over the weekend.
Dauphin now gets a handful of days off before returning to action on Wednesday when they head back north to take on the Stampeders in Swan River. Game time is 7:30pm.
