Kings Take Down Pistons For Fifth Straight Win

DAUPHIN, MB - An all around solid effort for the Dauphin Kings Saturday night at Credit Union Place, as they drove themselves to a 5-2 win over the Steinbach Pistons.

Dauphin was strong from start to finish. They opened the scoring just over two minutes into the first period when Ethan Stewart tallied his third of the year. Steinbach would respond midway through the period, but a quick reply from the Kings restored Dauphin's one goal lead. It was Gavin Nemis (5) scoring a treat of a goal set up by new Kings forward Rylan Ringor. Then Matthew Thomas went coast to coast and score with one second left in the opening frame to give Dauphin a 3-1 lead after 20.

The second period was a little quieter. The teams traded goals and the Kings took a 4-2 advantage into the final period. Gavin Nemis notched his second of the evening and sixth on the year.

In the third Steinbach was treated to multiple power play opportunities but they could not score after the Kings had pulled away when Declan Hoad picked up his fifth of the campaign.

Dauphin ended the night 1 for 2 on the man advantage and 4 for 5 on the penalty kill.

Cole Sheffield had a quietly excellent night, making saves he needed to in certain points of the game to keep his team ahead. In the end he turned away 34 of the 36 shots put in his direction. The Kings had 27 shots on Hockey Card Night.

The win improves the Kings record to 20-6-1-0 and moves them into a tie for first in the MJHL for the evening. They'll look to make it six straight victories on Tuesday when they welcome the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to town. Game time is 7:30pm at Credit Union Place and the game sponsor is McMunn & Yates in Dauphin!
