Kings Take Down Freeze, Move Into First In West

DAUPHIN, MB -  For the first time this season the Dauphin Kings find themselves atop the MJHL's West Division following a 4-3 victory over the Freeze in Winnipeg Friday night.

It probably wasn't their prettiest road game, but the Kings will take it for their 11th win of the campaign.

For the second straight game between the two clubs the opening 20 minutes was very stale and worked in favour of the Winnipeg Freeze who grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. They would score again around the 12 minute mark of the first before the Kings stopped the bleeding on their man advantage with Cayden Glover grabbing his 13th of the season.

The second period once again saw the Kings start slow. They took a penalty early and were scored on by the Freeze who went up 3-1. Shortly after Dauphin woke up and Ashton Paul (4) brought the Kings back within one.

In the third period the Kings were much better and it was their Power Play that helped them through the final 20 minutes. First Matthew Thomas' (4) seeing eye point shot made it a 3-3 game. Then Cayden Glover (14) on the man advantage gave his team their first lead of the night and that's all they'd need the rest of the way.

Cole Sheffield was decent between the pipes for the Kings, he stopped 32 of 35 shots while his team had 45. He most likely would want to have the second goal against back but it was an unfortunate situation for the star goalie as his skate blade was dislodged and hindered him from getting across the net to make a save.

Dauphin's Power Play, as mentioned, was key in the win going 3 for 5 while their penalty kill was 4 for 5.

Dauphin now moves to 11-4-0-0 on the year and will try for their fifth straight win on Saturday when they visit the Selkirk Steelers for the final time this season. Game time is 7:30pm!
