Kings Stumble In Loss To Virden

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings started the scoring and played a very strong opening 10 minutes, but after that they couldn't keep up in a 6-2 loss to the Virden Oil Capitals Tuesday night at Credit Union Place.

Cole DeKoninck (15) started the scoring for the Kings, who had the first and last goal on this night. After DeKoninck's tally the Oil Capitals would even the game at one on a man advantage of their own.

In the second period the Kings did not play very good. They gave up three unanswered to fall behind 4-1. They also got into some penalty trouble which hindered them from gaining any momentum.

Early in the third period the Oil Capitals would score again to take the wind out of Dauphin's sails. They would add one more before Carter Sawchuk tipped home his 15th of the campaign.

Dauphin ended the night 1 for 5 on the power play while the Oil Capitals finished 2 for 6.

Matthias Smith suffered the loss in goal, turning aside 35 of 41 shots while the Kings had 37 on the Virden net Tuesday night.

The Kings will have a quick chance to redeem themselves when they hit the road north to take on the OCN Blizzard Wednesday night. The affair marks the start of a three game road swing for Dauphin, they'll continue it on Sunday in Virden before going back to OCN next Tuesday. The Kings' next home game is Friday January 17th when they host the Portage Terriers at Credit Union Place!
