TONIGHT'S MATCHUP
KINGS (8-2-0-0)
After losing to the Flyers in Winkler on Sunday the Kings bounced back nicely with that 5-2 win over Northern Manitoba Tuesday night at Credit Union Place. Home ice has been kind to Dauphin so far this season. They haven't had many games at Credit Union Place, but they are undefeated, sitting with a record of 4-0-0-0.
It's the first of two games in two nights for the Kings. After this evening's affair they'll take on the Winkler Flyers Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm. Winkler is in the midst of a three game in three night stretch that will conclude tomorrow in Dauphin.
The Kings' Special Teams were both positive and negative Tuesday. They went 1 for 2 on the Power Play which has bumped them up to 25.8% but their Penalty Kill went 0 for 1 which slips them to 82.8% on the young season.
Dauphin has 13 players with at least five points so far this season. An impressive stat when you look at balanced scoring across the league. Entering this weekend Selkirk is the only team ahead of the Kings when it comes to that stat, they have 15, but they have played four more games than Dauphin.
Havryil Simchuk (6G, 4A) is atop the Kings in scoring with 10 points.
STEELERS (11-2-1-0)
The Selkirk Steelers remain atop the MJHL's East Division entering tonight's contest with the Kings. Selkirk is coming off a 5-2 victory over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines last night. It was a game where the Steelers and Wolverines were all square at 2-2, but Selkirk ended up pulling away with three late third period goals.
The Steelers, as mentioned, are still first in their division, but have played the second most games out of teams in the league so far this season. They're through 14 while teams behind them Steinbach (12), Niverville (11) and Portage (12) all have games in hand.
When it comes to Special Teams Selkirk is inside the top five in both categories. Their Power Play is the best in the league right now at 28.6% while their Penalty Kill is 4th at 86.5%.
The top scorer for the Steelers is Rohan Guevarra. He has seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points.
