Kings’ Solid Effort Falls Short

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings played one of their better games of late but lack of finish did them in in a 3-1 loss to the Portage Terriers Friday night at Credit Union Place.

For the first time in a couple games Dauphin had a good start, but they weren't rewarded for it on the score sheet. Portage would grab a 1-0 advantage at the midway point of the opening period and would out shoot Dauphin 12-7.

In the middle frame the Kings came alive and as one of their power plays expired the club scored when Ian Tookenay threw the puck on net. The goal came after the Terriers made it 2-1 in the opening minute of the second period. They would pad their lead at 14:07.

The Kings would continue to play well in the third period and started the frame with  a 5-on-3 man advantage, unfortunately they couldn't tally after lots of good pressure. The score would remain the same and end up as a 3-1 final.

The final shots were 32-29 for the Terriers. Dauphin out shot Portage 12-5 in the final 20 minutes.

On the man advantage the Terriers scored once while Dauphin's lone marker was even strength.

The Kings lose their fourth straight and see their record slip to 1-5-0 on the campaign. Their next contest comes on Tuesday when they welcome the Neepawa Natives to Credit Union Place for TV Tuesday. Opening face off is 7:30pm and the game is presented by NoFrills in Dauphin!
