PORTAGE, MB - The Dauphin Kings squeezed out a greasy road win Friday night in Portage, beating the top ranked Terriers 4-3 to extend their winning streak to four games.
It was an overall solid effort from the Kings top to bottom. It started in the opening period when Bryon Fobair notched his 10th of the season, scoring post and in to give Dauphin a 1-0 advantage. Andrew Liwiski (3) followed that up with a power play goal just past the midway point of the opening frame.
The number one team in the MJHL wouldn't go away though, they scored three unanswered to go up 3-2 on the Kings in the final minute of the second period. Their lead didn't last long though as Bryon Fobair scored one of the Kings' nicer goals this season. His 11th of the year came with just under five seconds left in the second.
The final period saw play even out until the end. Dauphin was eventually rewarded when Riley Buller snapped home his 10th of the season unassisted on a two on one with less than seven minutes to go.
Bryan Landsberger was superb in goal. He stopped 42 of the 45 shots he faced. "Officially" the Kings had 14 shots.
Portage had two goals on the man advantage Friday while Dauphin had the one.
The Kings improve their record to 23-19-4 on the season. They remain 6th in the MJHL standings and as mentioned, have now won four straight.
Dauphin will now get set to play in front of one of their biggest crowds this season when they hit the ice against Portage for Ukrainian Night on Saturday, presented by Ruff's Furniture.
Game time is 7:30pm, but the doors open at 5:30pm! The Credit Union Place South Ticket Office opens at 4:00pm with about 400 tickets remaining for the game.
