VIRDEN, MB - The Dauphin Kings struggles to find the net continued on Saturday in a 3-0 loss in Virden to the Oil Capitals.
The Kings couldn't generate much offensifely throughout the night and when they did, the chances just weren't going in.
Virden opened the scoring in the early stages of the second period and that's all they would need. They would add another goal before the five minute mark of the final frame and then tally an empty netter for the victory.
Kings goalie Brennan Kitchen was very strong in the losing effort. Much like Wednesday's game in Swan River, the goaltender gave his team a shot at a couple points, but the club could not support him on the score sheet. Kitchen stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced while his team fired 23 at the Virden goal.
Another bright spot for the Kings on Saturday was the group's penalty kill. It held one of the top five man advantages in the league off the game sheet. The other side to the sword is Dauphin's power play had another tough night.
The loss drops the Kings back down to .500. They remain inside the league's playoff picture, but are falling behind on the teams in front of them and losing ground on the teams behind them. Dauphin is now 10-10-1 on the campaign.
Next up for the Kings is a home game on Wednesday. The first mid week game at Credit Union Place this season, and it's sponsored by Dauphin's Countryfest! Opening face off is 7:30pm!
