Kings send Stampeders to the brink

The Dauphin Kings are one win away from moving on to the second round of the MJHL playoffs.

It all started with a goal from Cordell Coleman to tie the contest and Dauphin would then open up the flood gates as they scored six straight goals to secure a 6-1 win Friday night at the Centennial.

The win now has Dauphin leading three games to none. Swan Valley opened the scoring just 5:40 into the game when Cody Barnes scored on the man advantage as the Stampeders took a 1-0 lead. Carson Cherepak was unbelieavble for Dauphin as the Stamps’ had many other great chances; however, they were unable to beat the league’s goaltender of the year and the team’s offence came to his aid.

After Coleman tied the game 9:36 into the second, Kaden Bryant scored on the powerplay less than two minutes later to give Dauphin a 2-1 lead. Colby Jaquet, Nakodan Greyeyes, Luke Morris and Nolan Wickham would score third period goals as Dauphin skated off with a convincing 6-1 win.

The two teams will meet for game four on Monday night, a game you can hear on 730CKDM with Darnell Duff.

King notes:

  • Carson Cherepak stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced in the game
  • Parker Malchuk was a machine setting plays up as he recorded four assists
  • Kaden Bryant scored his first goal of the series and also had two assists
  • Dauphin’s first line (Greyeyes, Morris, Bryant) combined for three goals and three assists
