Kings secure 20th win, jump up the standings

The Dauphin Kings are now in a tie for first place in the MGEU West Divison.

Playing their lone game of the week on Wednesday night in Swan River, the Kings opened up a three-goal lead and held on late as they secured two big points in a thrilling 4-3 win against the Stampeders.

It was the fifth meeting of the season between the two clubs and Dauphin has won four of the games. The win gives Dauphin their 20th of the season and with their 43 points, they are now tied with Waywayseecappo for the top spot in the West. To note, the Wolverines do have four games in hand on Dauphin.

Dauphin opened up the scoring on a shot from Nolan Wickham as he gave the Kings a 1-0 lead, 7:32 into the contest. Swan Valley responded just about seven minutes later with a Trey Sauder goal on the man advantage before Jayden Harris scored on a sweet shot to give Dauphin a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Dauphin came out on fire in the second as Mason Smith and Matthew Gough scored goals to give Dauphin a 4-1 lead before Jakob Jones cut the deficit in half. With just more than 10 minutes left in the third, Justin Keck scored to bring the Stampeders within a goal.

Marko Belak stood strong the rest of the way and shut the door to help Dauphin win their 20th game of the season and he finished with 42 saves on the night, while Kobe Grant stopped 34 for Swan Valley.

Dauphin will now get a six-day break from game action as they don’t play again until next Tuesday when they’re off to OCN to play the Blizzard. It will be the first of three meetings with the Blizzard this month, Dauphin hosts them twice to end the month.
