DAUPHIN, MB - A much better game from start to finish gave the Dauphin Kings a big 5-2 win over the Steinbach Pistons Saturday night at Credit Union Place.
Dauphin struggled a little off the hop, giving up the game's first goal just over five minutes in. After that though the club controlled things. First Grady Hobbs got things started by scoring his 32nd of the campaign unassisted. Then in the final minute of the opening 20 minutes Nakodan Greyeyes tallied his 19th to put Dauphin ahead.
The middle frame was more Kings. Dauphin scored one more with Avery Smith notching his 12th of the year to give his club some insurance.
In the final period the Kings scored two more times, first Greyeyes (20) then Hobbs (33) as the two both grabbed three points Saturday evening. Steinbach would score late to make it a 5-2 affair.
Matthias Smith was very good in net for Dauphin Saturday. He stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced while his team put 31 on the Steinbach goal.
Dauphin ended the night 2 for 5 on the power play and 3 for 4 on the penalty kill.
With the win the Kings improve to 25-21-3-2 on the season and they now find themselves just one point back of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines (6th) and Virden Oil Capitals (5th).
Next up for Dauphin is a three game road swing. On Wednesday they'll travel to Neepawa to play the Natives. That's followed by games Friday in Steinbach and Saturday in Portage. All games next week are 7:30pm starts!
The next Kings home game is TV TUESDAY February 18th when the OCN Blizzard come to town!
