Kings Outlast Stampeders, Win 5-3
DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings outplayed and eventually outlasted the Swan Valley Stampeders Wednesday night in Swan River.
In a back and forth affair it was the Kings who came out on top, winning 5-3 in their final trip to the Valley this season.
In the opening period the Kings were able to get some chances. They would score on their second man advantage of the period. It was Sheldon Shyiak scoring his second of the year, it was also his second time scoring in Swan River this season. The lead was short lived as the Stampeders would score on the Power Play late in the frame to make it 1-1 after 20.
The second period saw the Kings come out strong but they were unable to score on any of the chances they generated. Swan Valley would grab a 2-1 lead just under 12 minutes into the frame. That would be the only goal of the period.
In the third period the Kings outplayed the Stampeders significantly. They were eventually rewarded with a Power Play and Gavin Haslam (4) would capitalize to even things at two with half a period to play. Then the Kings would gain the lead with Shyiak scoring his second of the night off an offensive face off. Swan Valley would tie it shortly after but the Kings would continue to control things and Ethan Stewart would eventually bury the game winner, his seventh of the campaign. Havryil Simchuk would add an empty netter to make the final 5-3.
Shots were 41-22 for the Kings. Goaltender Bryson Yaschyshyn picked up the win in net.
Power Plays finished with the Kings going 2 for 4 while Swan Valley was 1 for 2.
Dauphin goes to 13-6-1-0 on the season and are 1st in the MJHL's West Division, three points ahead of Virden. Now they'll begin a critical part in their schedule. It's a stretch that sees them play nine of their next 11 games at Credit Union Place. It all begins on Friday when they welcome the Steinbach Pistons to town at 7:00pm! After that the Kings go to Winnipeg to play the Blues on Sunday. Then next Saturday, sponsored by Countryfest, they begin a seven game home stand!
