DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings scored three goals in the third period en route to a 4-1 victory over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Friday night, opening up their best-of-seven series.
The game was quite defensive in the opening 40 minutes with the Wolverines opening the scoring in the second. Dauphin would quickly respond when Ty Pratte got the Kings' first marker of the post season.
The two teams went into the third period and Dauphin came out strong. Gavin Nemis would score the game winner of a nice rush while Sheldon Shyiak added insurance and Ethan Stewart iced the game with an empty netter.
Things got chippy late between the two teams but Dauphin would pull away with the victory.
Power Plays saw both teams go 0 for 4.
Cole Sheffield was solid in net for the Kings. He stopped 20 of 21 shots while his team fired 32 on the Wayway goal.
Game two of the best-of-seven series goes Sunday night in Waywayseecappo. The series will return to Dauphin on Tuesday for game three. All start times for the series are 7:30pm!
