Kings Lose 4-3 In Neepawa

NEEPAWA, MB – For the second straight night the Dauphin Kings had chances to pull off a victory, but a couple bad bounces did them in in a 4-3 loss to the Neepawa Natives Wednesday night.

Dauphin got off to a great start, controlling the game for the first three minutes. However, Neepawa’s opening rush ended up in the back of the club’s net and Dauphin could never get up on the Natives after that. Neepawa would eventually take a 2-0 lead before the Kings got on the board when Brett Piper notched his 4th of the season with Brendan Arnold getting the lone assist. Both clubs would add one more in the frame. Neepawa would make it 3-1 before Daniel Chartrand got his 13th of the year on the man advantage.

In the second the Kings and Natives were pretty even, but Neepawa was the lone team to hit the net, taking a 4-2 advantage into the third.

Dauphin would control most of the play in the final period, but were unable to capitalize on their chances. Brett Piper got his second of the night and 5th of the season but it was too late.

Brandon Holtby made his second straight start in goal Wednesday and stopped 37 out of 41 shots. His team put 43 on the Neepawa goal.

Dauphin’s Special Teams were clicking on Wednesday. They went 2 for 4 on the Power Play and 2 for 2 on the Penalty Kill.

With a Swan Valley OT loss to Wayway (3-2) the Kings are right back where they started before Tuesday night, four points out of a playoff spot. Dauphin will look to regroup as they kick off a three game home stand at Credit Union Place on Friday against the Winnipeg Blues (7:30pm) and it’s Minor Hockey Night brought to you by Twin Motors! Be sure to wear your minor hockey jersey to the game!
