DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings recovered from a 3-1 deficit in the third period to earn at least a point for the eighth straight game, but they couldn't get the second in a 4-3 overtime loss to Wayway on TV Tuesday.
The game was a bit of a slow one in the opening two periods. The Kings would jump out to a 1-0 advantage when Grady Hobbs notched his eighth of the campaign with Baron Thompson and Nakodan Greyeyes drawing the assists in the first 20.
Dauphin would take the 1-0 lead into the middle frame but the Wolverines would tie it up late to make it 1-1 heading into the final period.
Early on in the third it was all Wayway as the Wolverines jumped out to a 3-1 advantage before the eight minute mark. Dauphin then responded on the power play when Hobbs (9) picked up his second of the night, then Avery Smith (6) tallied the tying goal with under nine minutes to play.
The Kings had some quality chances in overtime but couldn't finish on one of them before the Wolverines.
Matthias Smith suffered the OT loss in goal. He turned aside 34 of 36 shots while his team fired 32 on the Wayway net.
On the Special Teams side of things the Kings went 1 for 4 while Wayway ended 0 for 2.
The loss adds another point to the Kings' record but sees it adjust to 8-6-2-2 on the season. Their 20 points puts them in sole possession of 7th in the league standings.
Next up for the Kings is a double header weekend on Friday and Saturday. Friday Dauphin entertains Winkler, presented by Dauphin's Countryfest! Then Saturday the Kings are home to Steinbach. Both games are 7:30pm starts!
