Kings Host Freeze For Final Time This Season

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings kick off a small two game home stand tonight against the bottom teams in each MJHL division.

First up is a contest with the Winnipeg Freeze who are ranked 7th in the league's East Division. It's another game that the Kings cannot afford to fumble as they look to put a gap between themselves and the Northern Manitoba Blizzard for top spot in the West Division.

It's the fourth and final meeting between Dauphin and the Freeze. They won't see each other again until September at the absolute earliest with Winnipeg well outside the playoff picture.

The M&M Food Market Express Puck Toss returns tonight in the first intermission with the pot closing in on $700.00!

Game time is 7:30pm!

Be sure to follow the Kings on social media throughout tonight's tilt for updates!

TONIGHT'S MATCH UP

KINGS (22-9-1-0) - 1st in West

There's lots for the Dauphin Kings to improve on following their 5-2 loss to the Terriers in Portage on Wednesday. Dauphin's Special Teams arguably lost them the game in Portage with the team's penalty killing off just two of Portage's five power plays while their man advantage went 1 for 8 and they failed to score on a full two minute 5 on 3 opportunity.

As mentioned the Kings open a small two game home stand tonight. After this evening they host Swan Valley on Tuesday and then go on the road for three straight with tilts in Winkler, Winnipeg (Blues) and Swan Valley on the horizon.

As expected Dauphin's Special Teams took a hit on Wednesday. Their man advantage is now at 25% while their penalty kill took a gut punch and is now down from 83% to 82% and outside the league's top three.

Cayden Glover added an assist in Wednesday's loss and continues to lead Dauphin in scoring entering tonight with 25 goals and 15 assists for 40 points.

FREEZE (4-26-1-2) - 7th in East

The Winnipeg Freeze are officially in "spoiler mode" with the Trade Deadline now in the rear view mirror. The Freeze will not make it to the post season and will look to ruin other team's chances at gaining critical points in the standings.

The Freeze are coming off a 7-2 loss to the Virden Oil Capitals on Tuesday. A game which saw them dress just 15 skaters. After this evening Winnipeg will open a stretch that sees them play five of their next six on home ice to close out January.

Special Teams for the Freeze are not good. They're last in the MJHL on the power play at 8.5% and third to last on the penalty kill at 75.6%.

Nicholas Cullen (6G, 11A) leads Winnipeg in points with 17.
